A "mecca" for salmon fishing, Campbell River is at its peak in August and September, with fishermen going after the giant "king" and "tye". Campbell River is connected by BC Ferries service to Powell River across the Strait of Georgia on the Sunshine Coast. Campbell River is the last town of any consequence before the cluster of small towns at the very northern tip of Vancouver Island.
