Campbell River

A "mecca" for salmon fishing, Campbell River is at its peak in August and September, with fishermen going after the giant "king" and "tye". However, there's great fishing throughout the year, especially for trout in the lakes. Accommodations range from rustic fishing camps to comfortable resorts. The Campbell River Museum, open May to September, displays native cultures. Exceptional American Indian crafts can be found at the Indian (Kwakiutl) Museum at Quathiaski Cove on Quadra Island (take the ferry).

Campbell River is connected by BC Ferries service to Powell River across the Strait of Georgia on the Sunshine Coast. Campbell River is the last town of any consequence before the cluster of small towns at the very northern tip of Vancouver Island.
