Interior Region

Some of the most spectacular close-up wildlife viewing and scenery in Alaska can be seen in its Interior Region, including grizzlies, moose, Dall sheep, wolves, coyote, red fox, lynx, snowshoe hare, beaver, and otter. Numerous varieties of bird life can also be seen in the region.

From Alaska's most popular attraction, Mount McKinley and Denali National Park and Preserve, to the rich mining heritage of Fairbanks, there is much to see in the Interior. Home of The National Historic Iditarod Trail, the Interior also offers a step back into rustic Alaska with evidence of its first homesteaders and the historic route of the Alaska Railroad.

Its rolling hills and valleys, and the nation's highest mountain make this part of Alaska completely different from the rest of the state.
