Gulf Coast Region

The Gulf Coast Region of Alabama is diverse in its offerings, from history and entertainment to natural beauty. History buffs will appreciate Fort Morgan on Mobile Bay, the Museum of Mobile, Fort Gaines, the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, and Monroeville's Old Courthouse, used as the model for the trial scene in To Kill a Mockingbird. Entertainment can be found in Mobile's live music, clubs, and fine restaurants, and Foley's outlet stores and antique galleries. The natural setting of the region boasts massive woodlands of tall pines and old oaks, the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail along Mobile Bay where you can see wading and shore birds, as well as migrants in the spring and fall. Activities of the region include guided wildlife expeditions and paddlewheel excursions on the river, water slides, golf, bungee towers and deep sea fishing trips on the gulf.
